10 things to know before buying the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing

The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is a brand new offering in the performance sedan segment and is the successor to the legendary Cadillac ATS-V, which was one of the favorites among American gearboxes for its impressive performance and excellent driving dynamics. Launched with a base MSRP of $58,995, the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is one of the fastest offerings in the segment and its twin-turbocharged V6 engine sounds phenomenal throughout the rev range.

The CT4-V Blackwing, which comes in a single version, is made for track days and its communicative chassis and precise steering would put a big grin on anyone’s face. The interior is packed with all the technology and features and the car looks striking inside and out. Competing with the likes of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C43, here are 10 things you should know before buying the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.

10/10 One of the best handling in the segment

Via: Cadillac

The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, which comes with the magnetic ride-control suspension that can read the road up to 1000 times per second and adjust accordingly for a seamless driving experience, is a blast on the turns and racetracks. In addition to the modern suspension, it also comes with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, Brembo brakes and improved aerodynamics.

With all these upgrades, the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is a joy to drive. The car enters the tight corners with very little understeer and holds the line without fuss. The mid-corner changes of direction aren’t frightening, and the steering is razor-sharp, offering tremendous feel and feedback to the driver. At the exit of the corner it gives a hint of oversteer, similar to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. The electronic differential lock ensures that you can effortlessly release all the power.

9/10 A comfortable daily driver

Even with all the firepower under the hood coupled with all the bells and whistles that make it an exceptional trackday car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is also a comfortable everyday driver. Put the car in comfort mode and the magnetic ride control adjusts the rebound and damping settings to make it better for the road.

Low-speed ride quality proved to be comfortable for a sports sedan. In comparison, the BMW M3 showed much more stiffness at city speeds. The high speed ride quality of the CT4-V Blackwing was better than any of its rivals, as it rides very flat and with no major roll. The well-cushioned seats combined with premium bracing also help make the ride one of the best we’ve experienced in the segment.

8/10 Fast enough for a caddy

This is probably one of Cadillac’s last sport sedans before electrification kicks in, and they’ve made sure the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing comes with the refined and snappy powertrain that could put many of its European rivals to shame. Under the hood is a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 472 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a Tremec 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission and power is transferred to the rear wheels.

Via: Edmunds

The car has an insane amount of torque and the twin-turbo engine ensures that there is no turbo lag. The CT4-V manages to do the 0-60 mph run in 4.1 seconds with the manual and 3.9 seconds with the automatic transmission. The quarter-mile time of 12 seconds and top speed of 189 mph is also the best in the segment. The machine is lightning fast and always provides you with the right gear. The electronic limited-slip differential also helps to cut the power with ease.

7/10 Interior quality and design could have been better

Via Cadillac

While the interior of the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is one of the most customizable in the sports sedan segment, we wish it came with a slightly fancier interior, especially compared to the BMW M3 and the Audi RS5. The interior gets a good dose of leather with contrasting stitching, carbon fiber for the center console and the gloss black elements.

The design overall feels a bit long and resembles some of the older Cadillacs out there. The quality of the switches isn’t the best we’ve seen in this segment and the 8″ infotainment comes with thick side panels, making it look a little less premium. There’s also no sunroof and the cabin doesn’t feel very airy. Although the quality of the cabin is much better than the Cadillacs of the past decade, we noticed a few uneven panel mounts and inconsistent panel gas. There are also some hard plastics lower in the cabin.

6/10 Offers a spacious cabin with all relevant features

The interior of the CT4-V Blackwing, viewed from the driver's window

The front row of the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing offers an impressive amount of head and legroom, and even the taller folks would find it comfortable to sit in. The seats are wide and provide unparalleled support under the thighs and lower back. There is also support for heating and ventilation. In terms of storage space, there are several compartments in the center console, a large glove compartment and a deep storage space under the armrest. Bottle and cup holders are also offered.

The rear seat in the CT4-V Blackwing

Being a compact sports sedan that could seat five passengers, we found the rear seats a bit cramped. When the front seats are pushed all the way back, it does rub against the legs of the rear seat passengers. Legroom and headroom are on the short side compared to the BMW M3 and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, the under-thigh support isn’t the best and there aren’t many storage spaces either. The cargo space of 11 cubic meters in the trunk is reasonable for the segment, but the tailgate is quite high.

5/10 Fuel efficiency is on par with the rivals

The front of the CT4-V Blackwing on track

The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is not a car you would buy based on fuel efficiency. With a fire-breathing twin-turbocharged V6 engine coupled with all the performance goodies under the hood, the CT4-V Blackwing was able to achieve 15 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway, which is pretty much like the Chevrolet Camaro SS with the V8 engine.

With a decent 17-gallon fuel tank capacity, the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing could travel 691 highway miles on a full tank of gas. By comparison, both the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and the BMW M3 Competition could achieve slightly higher combined gas mileage of 20 MPG and 19 MPG respectively. However, their tank range was lower due to the smaller tank size.

4/10 Braking performance is fantastic

Via Cadillac

Being a fairly lightweight offering of the segment thanks to the multiple bits of carbon fiber and aluminum body panels combined with the powerful Brembo braking hardware, the CT4-V helps Blackwing to brake with utmost comfort and confidence at any speed. Hit the brake pedal hard and you’ll be amazed at the excellent braking progression on offer. The 70-0 mph braking distance of 153 feet and 100-0 mph braking distance of 309 feet also demonstrate its excellence.

The rear of the CT4-V Blackwing

The front rotors are 15″ and the rear comes with 13.4″ rotors, and all rotors are vented as well. The brake bite is top-notch, and the brake fade is almost non-existent. The long list of braking features such as ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, slotted rotors and Hill Hold Control are standard for the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.

3/10 Comes with many safety features

The standard driver assistance features offered with the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist. All regular safety features such as airbags, ABS, powertrain traction control, stability control, tire pressure monitoring system and front and rear parking assist are standard.

We also recommend purchasing the optional driver assistance package, which is offered for an additional cost of $900, as it comes with a few more much-needed driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, and reversing. automatic braking. While the car has not yet been tested by both NHTSA and IIHS, its solid build quality combined with many standard safety and driver assistance features should help it earn excellent ratings.

2/10 Striking exterior design

through Cadillac

The design of the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing looks very different from all of its rivals and draws attention wherever you go. The overall proportions are perfect for a sports sedan and the beautiful elements such as the black front splitter, contrasting color schemes and the functional air vents make the car look very purposeful from all angles. At the front, the functional aerodynamics, LED headlights with LED daytime running lights and the bulging bonnet are offered. There are also carbon fiber elements for better aerodynamics.

These front lip spoilers and functional aerodynamic elements also provide the required downforce on the sedan, making it suitable for high speeds and sharp turns. The 18″ gunmetal gray alloy wheels look great on the CT4-V Blackwing. The Brembo calipers, solid rotors and fender vents accentuate the side profile beautifully. The rear gets a carbon fiber spoiler, LED taillights, blacked-out diffuser and the quad tip exhaust.

1/10 Infotainment system could have been bigger

Via MotorBiscuit

The 8-inch Cadillac user experience infotainment system is offered with the CT4-V Blackwing. The user interface was decent as everything is laid out neatly. There is a performance data recorder on board that records all the telemetry and videos of your lap times, which can be saved to an external SD card. We also found this infotainment to be very fast with little to no lag.

All required entertainment and connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa integration, SiriusXM radio, navigation, OnStar services, steering wheel audio controls, voice recognition and Bluetooth connectivity are standard. The 15-speaker AKG audio system also provides a premium audio experience. The only issue we had with this infotainment is the somewhat small screen, especially compared to the rivals. The thick bezels on both sides don’t look very premium either.
