The Cadillac CT4 is a compact luxury sedan launched in the United States in 2020. As a replacement for the aging Cadillac ATS, it became an instant hit with those who wanted a luxury daily driver with great looks and impressive performance to rival the European offering. Based on the same first-generation CT4, Cadillac is back with the 2022 avatar.
The 2022 Cadillac CT4 will be offered in four trim configurations and at a base MSRP of $33,695. This American luxury car maker has delivered quite a long list of upgrades for this 2022 model in the form of multiple optional packages and more interior, infotainment and driver assistance systems as standard. However, both engine options are unchanged. Competing with the Acura Integra, Audi A3 and BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe, here are 10 things you should know before buying the 2022 Cadillac CT4.
10/10 Stylish design
The 2022 Cadillac CT4 continues the bold design language of the outgoing model, and the car never looks or feels dated. Being a compact luxury saloon, the CT4 looks immaculate from all angles with clean and sharp lines, beautiful signature vertical headlights, LED taillights and a sharp bumper design.
Buy the CT4-V or the CT4-V Blackwing models and it looks much sportier than the regular trim configurations. The darkened elements, wide tires and an integrated spoiler add to the appeal of this name. The eight exterior colors go well with the aerodynamic design of the CT4 and there is also a rather long list of optional extras for the exterior.
9/10 Base turbocharged inline-4 engine is decent
The base engine offered with the 2022 Cadillac CT4 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 producing 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The CT4 is one of the few offerings in the segment with an RWD setup.
This turbo engine in combination with the 8-speed automatic transmission ensures a comfortable driving experience. It’s fairly fast too, with a 0-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 14.6 seconds. However, the Genesis G70 managed a slightly better 0-60 mph time of 6.1 seconds.
8/10 Back seat is a bit tight for three passengers
Being a 5-seat compact luxury sedan, we expected the 2022 Cadillac CT4 to have the same cabin space as the BMW 3 Series and Genesis G70. However, the space in the back seat will disappoint family buyers. With 36.5″ headroom and 33.4″ rear legroom, it feels quite limited.
The cargo capacity of 10.7 cubic feet isn’t the greatest, and the tailgate for the cargo area is also quite tall. However, the front row offers excellent all-round space and the seats are very comfortable. They are also wrapped in leather. There is also plenty of storage space in the cabin to store all the knick-knacks.
7/10 Stylish looking cabin
Like the exterior design, the interior of the 2022 Cadillac CT4 stands out from all other monikers offered at this price point. The dual-tone color combination in the cabin with subtle colors gives it a sufficiently premium feel and the leather upholstery with heated and ventilated front seats with standard massage function is something you don’t see in this segment.
The 12″ digital instrument panel and 8″ touchscreen infotainment screen are perfectly positioned, and the aluminum and silver accents on the center console and door cards enhance the design well. However, the quality of the interior does not meet the standards of the segment’s Bimmers and Mercedes-Benz models.
6/10 Gets the 8″ CUE infotainment system
The Cadillac User Experience touchscreen infotainment system with an 8-inch display is carried over from the older models of the CT4. This is a feature packed infotainment system offering Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, 12-inch digital gauge, connected apps, and voice recognition.
The clean and uncluttered interface and impressive feature list are a plus of the CT4. However, the rivals offer larger infotainment screens. Audio is provided by an 8-speaker audio system as standard. If you want an even better audio experience, Cadillac also offers a 14-speaker Bose audio system as an option.
5/10 Comes with loads of driver assistance features
Unlike some of its rivals, the 2022 Cadillac CT4 doesn’t lack too many driver assistance technologies as standard. This is a good thing because you don’t have to opt for the optional extras to get all these features. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning.
Rear parking aid, HD rear view camera and blind spot monitoring are also on board. If you need the impressive semi-autonomous driving functionality of the Super Cruise, you should choose it from the optional list. When it comes to the basic safety features, all features such as airbags, ABS, traction control, stability control and teen driving mode are standard.
4/10 Impressive braking performance
Braking is provided by 11.8-inch front and 12.4-inch rear discs and there’s a host of advanced features too, making braking in the 2022 Cadillac CT4 quite effortless. Its curb weight of 3,422 lbs is also lower than rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz C300 and Genesis G70.
Braking from 60-0 mph could be done about 123 feet, putting it in the same ballpark as all other rivals in the segment. The braking functions such as ABS with EBD, brake assist, electronic parking brake and automatic emergency braking system are standard for all versions. If you get the CT4-V Blackwing, the braking performance is even better thanks to the upgraded rotors and pads.
3/10 2.0 liter engine is quite economical
If you get the base 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine, the fuel economy won’t let you down. With 23 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highways, the 2022 Cadillac CT4 offered a combined gas mileage of 27 mpg. This turned out to be much better than the combined 25 MPG of the Lexus IS 300.
With a 17-gallon fuel tank capacity, the 2022 Cadillac CT4 could achieve a best-in-class combined tank range of 459 miles. However, if you get the Cadillac CT4-V that comes with the 2.7-liter engine, you’re looking at a lower combined gas mileage of 23 MPG.
2/10 CT4-V Trim gets an even more powerful engine
If you found the 2022 Cadillac CT4’s base 2.0-liter engine lackluster, don’t be disappointed. You can also opt for the CT4-V trim offered for a base MSRP of $45,895. This moniker comes with an impressive 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that produces 325 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.
It gets the same 10-speed automatic transmission and RWD drivetrain, but acceleration from 0-100km/h takes just 4.8 seconds. The top speed of 250 km/h is also better than what the base engine offers.
1/10 CT4-V Blackwing is fast and agile
The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing competes with the likes of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, both in terms of performance and driving dynamics. Priced at just $58,995, it’s much cheaper than both rivals too.
With the 3.6-liter V8 biturbo engine mated to a six-speed manual or optional ten-speed automatic transmission, the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing managed to produce an impressive 472 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph comes in 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile is done in 12.4 seconds. There’s also a long list of performance upgrades to the chassis, suspension and braking system, setting racetracks on fire.
