The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is a mid-sized luxury crossover SUV launched for a base MSRP of $48,595. Offered in three trim configurations, the 2022 XT6 has everything you need in a family SUV. It’s quite roomy inside and comes standard with most of the bells and whistles. The elegant exterior design and reasonably long optional packages are also a great addition.
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is part of the first generation of the XT6 that hit US shores in 2019 and there are no major changes from the earlier model years. The top Sport trim gets Brembo brakes and red-painted calipers. The Platinum package also offers Modena leather upholstery. However, both the turbocharged inline-4 engine and optional V6 engine remain unchanged. The interior doesn’t see much difference either. Competing with the Acura MDX and Lincoln Aviator, here are 10 things you should know before buying the 2022 Cadillac XT6.
10/10 A beautifully designed SUV
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 turned out to be one of the finest offerings in the three-row midsize SUV segment. View it from the front and you’ll appreciate the sharp and handsome design language with the Cadillac pentagonal grille, stylish bumper design and LED headlights with LED daytime running lights neatly integrated into one unit.
Even the sides and rear are impressive, with the beautiful 20″ or 21″ alloy wheels covering the wheel arches, subtle chrome accents, roof rails and LED taillights. The dual-exhaust system and excellent 77.3-inch width give it a more pronounced look from the front and rear, and it also gets quite a few packages and optional extras.
9/10 More spacious than the rivals
This is an SUV that ticks all the boxes if you intend to buy it to comfortably transport your whole family. The entry height is not very high due to the average overall height and ground clearance, which makes getting in and out comfortable. The leather upholstery in combination with the many luxurious amenities that are standard is also a plus.
The front and second row seats have plenty of headroom, legroom and shoulder room, even for taller people. Being a 7-seater SUV, the middle row has a captain’s seat and the seats provide plenty of support. Even the third row of seats offered more room than many of its rivals. The 12.6 cu ft cargo capacity is also decent.
8/10 Best value for money offer in the segment
The $48,595 price tag makes the 2022 Cadillac XT6 an incredible value proposition for the segment. The base luxury trim gets all the required interior, exterior and entertainment features as standard, and buyers on a tight budget will prefer it over the base trims of the competitors.
Even the higher Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels offer far more standard technologies and features for the price they come at. The Premium Luxury trim, which costs $56,390, is the one that comes into play, as it comes with a hands-free tailgate, a host of driver assistance systems, leather upholstery, and wireless phone charging.
7/10 Gets many optional features and packages
With this 2022 iteration, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 comes with a few changes to the optional packages offered. The Platinum Package offered for a MSRP of $3,800 now comes with Modena leather on the steering wheel instead of Turin leather.
Apart from that, the premium package offers many more features such as Maple semi-aniline leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel and premium carpeted floor mats. Other packages offered include the onyx lite package, the onyx package, the technology package, the driver assistance package, and the comfort and air quality package. These are all reasonably priced too.
6/10 The Inline-4 engine is powerful enough
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine producing 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque with the base luxury trim. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission with overdrive torque converter and gear selector, and this SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 lbs.
While the performance numbers don’t seem to be the best in the segment by any means, the 0-60 MPH time of 7.5 seconds isn’t terribly slow. It can also be used with both FWD and AWD drivetrains. However, the 3.6-liter V6 is faster in the 0-60 MPH run by almost 1 second.
5/10 Can also be done with a V6
The 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine would be our choice, as it offers better performance and acceleration for not much more money. This engine produces 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque, and transmission duties are handled by the same 9-speed automatic transmission as that found on the 2.0-liter mill.
The 0-60 MPH comes in just 6.4 seconds and it also has a higher top speed of 132 MPH. Even acceleration in gear is superior to that of the XT6 with the turbocharged inline-4 powerplant under the hood. The towing capacity of 4,000 kg is also great.
4/10 Lush cabin
The first thing you notice when you step into the 2022 Cadillac XT6 is the stylish design of the cabin. The premium leather upholstery would feel unreal on those long car journeys and the wood and leather accents on the dashboard and door cards give it the requisite luxury one would expect from this segment.
The cab can be had in jet black and cirrus trim colors, and you can also get it with multiple wood accents from the optional trim. The single-plate design of the dashboard helps with forward visibility, and the thick leather-wrapped steering wheel is also a plus. It comes with all the bells and whistles, even with the lower trim configurations.
3/10 Comes with an 8″ touchscreen infotainment system
The 8-inch Cadillac User Experience infotainment system comes standard with all trims of the 2022 Cadillac XT6, and it gets the job done perfectly. It is loaded with all the necessary connectivity and entertainment features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi hotspot, you don’t need to choose any optional packages.
However, the navigation system, rear seat entertainment system, 8-inch diagonal color screen for the driver and DVD player are part of the optional packages. The Bose 8-speaker premium audio system comes standard with the 2022 XT6. You can upgrade to the Bose Performance Series 14-speaker audio system if you want a better audio experience.
2/10 First class NHTSA and IIHS crash ratings
Like many of the segment’s rivals, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 doesn’t disappoint when it comes to safety performance. This luxury SUV received a 5-star rating in the NHTSA crash test with a similar score in all subsections of the test. The IIHS awarded it the 2022 top safety pick + title for the midsize luxury SUV segment.
In terms of features, the XT6 comes standard with Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Aid, Blind Spot Monitoring, Driver Monitoring System and Collision Mitigation System. However, the adaptive cruise control and night vision system are optional extras.
1/10 Impressive braking performance
Braking performance sees no change from the older model years of the XT6 and that helps the car to anchor effectively from triple-digit speeds. Hit the brakes hard from 70 MPH and this SUV comes to a complete stop in 50 yards.
By comparison, the Volvo XC90 did the same 70-0 MPH braking at 55 yards and Audi Q7 did it at 50 yards. The 12.6″ front rotors and 12.4″ rear rotors on the 2022 XT6 are one of the largest rotors in the segment. All braking features such as ABS with EBD, automatic emergency braking, ventilated rotors and brake assist are also standard.
