The 2023 Ram 1500 is an emerging diesel truck with a high towing capacity
Edmunds looked at the 2023 Ram 1500 and had a lot of positives to report on. There is a V6 and V8 to choose from, both good choices. However, the EcoDiesel V6 has some impressive pulling and torque numbers. With the V8 or the diesel, the 2023 Ram 1500 can tow between 11,000 and 12,000 pounds. Combining the EcoDiesel V6 with the rear-wheel drive option combines 26 mpg. Edmunds says the 33-gallon tank can go about 1,000 highway miles before needing a refill.
Ram will also offer the 2023 1500 in an electrified V6 option and a V8. The diesel is still a good bet, as it gets feedback that it has some best-in-class drag ratings.
Estimated Price: $38,000

The 2022 Chevy Colorado is a high-traction diesel truck
Edmunds says the 2022 Chevy Colorado has an “agile size, along with well-mannered steering and handling.” The Colorado 2022 isn’t exactly forthcoming, but the diesel option is no longer on the books for 2023. While the Colorado is still a capable truck, it’s still considered medium-sized and has the towing capacity to match. Chevrolet says it has plenty of torque and an estimated towing capacity of 7,770 pounds with the diesel engine. The payload is up to 1,400 pounds.
The Chevy truck is known for its impressive pulling and pulling power and its ‘comfort and everyday usability’. While the Colorado may not be a truck enough for everyone, it should fit many budgets and situations.
MSRP Range: $27,100 – $44,200
If you need a heavy-duty diesel option, the Ram 3500 may be right
There is no way around the heavy 2022 Ram 3500. Even though this truck has enormous power, according to Edmunds it is comfortable and quiet in the cab. Ram offers the 3500 in a few diesel engine types for those who want a diesel car to tow. The 6.7-liter Cummins high-power turbo diesel has a towing capacity of 37,090 pounds and a maximum payload of 6,570 pounds. If buyers opt for the regular 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel, it can tow 22,670 pounds and has a maximum payload of 6,840 pounds.
While it may be too much for some situations, the 2022 Ram 3500 is a brand new, high-traction diesel truck. Edmunds says the diesel engine can be on the noisy side, but that’s part of the area. Ram also included the new Trailer 360 View camera feature to make parking easier.
MSRP Range: $48,060 – $75,505
At the end of the day, car companies seem to be moving away from heavy trucks. Those in need of a brand new high-traction diesel truck are unlikely to stray much from the current path. Electric pickup trucks can pull, but not enough to make up for these numbers.
