Dodge’s new 2022 Durango R/T Plus model is now available in the Build & Price Configurator!

Back in October, we told you about the Dodge brand’s decision to “simplify” its 2022 Dodge Durango range. Before long, in November, we broke the news that the Dodge brand would be re-introducing the Durango R/T Plus – a more luxurious variant of the popular performance 5.7-liter HEMI V8-powered three-row SUV.

Following in the footsteps of the widely popular Durango GT Plus model, Dodge aims to continue to offer even more bang for the buck, enticing some of the Grand Cherokee L’s more luxury-friendly customers to the American performance brand.

  • Advanced Brake Assist

Unlike the 5.7-liter HEMI V8-powered 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, which has a towing capacity of 7,200 lbs, the same engine allows the Durango R/T to tow its newer three-row cousin an additional 200 lbs. with rear-wheel drive (RWD). However, when equipped with the Tow N’ Go package, the Durango R/T Plus can tow 8700 lbs. Just proving that because the Grand Cherokee L is newer doesn’t necessarily make it better.

The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 produces a best-in-class 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. torque under the hood of the Durango R/T Plus. Mated to a ZF-produced 8HP70 8-speed automatic transmission, the Durango R/T Plus has lightning-fast and precise shifts. With the optional Tow N’ Go package, the Durango R/T Plus can nail 0 to 60 mph in the low range of 6 seconds and cover a standing 1/4 mile at 14.7 seconds @ 95 mph. Not bad for a vehicle weighing 5,313 lbs.

While the 2021 Dodge Durango lineup featured 6 exterior colors to choose from, the 2022 model is a stark contrast. Originally only available in 4 exterior colors for 2022, DB Black (PXJ), White Knuckle (PW7), Octane Red (PRV) and Destroyer Gray (PDN), many Durango fans were upset that Dodge would eliminate the more vibrant colors from the line up.

Dealers lucky enough to get their orders in Dodge before the end of the year could choose from two additional colors of F8 Green and Redline. So if you’re looking for those two options, you might want to check with dealers to see exactly who has one on the way or is being built.

The Durango R/T Plus has a US manufacturer’s recommended retail price (MSRP) of $52,225 for RWD models and $54,825 for four-wheel drive (AWD) models. Both prices do not include the additional $1,595 for the destination fee.
