In the automotive industry, timing is key.
Let’s take a look at the timetable that automakers give when they announce a new model. Basically, when do they plan to start production and what date do they expect the first deliveries.
This calendar is important to potential customers because it tells them when they will receive the vehicles ordered, allowing them to plan in the meantime.
The planning has become even more important due to the shortage of chips and the disruption of the supply chain due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the frequently voiced critiques of Tesla CEO Elon Musk (TSLA) – Get Tesla Inc. Reportis that he never respected all the schemes given in the presentation of the company’s vehicle models.
The last example concerns the very futuristic Cybertruck whose production date has already been postponed several times.
For Tesla’s rivals, timing has become crucial if they want to challenge the dominance of the Model S and 3 sedan and Model X and Y SUV manufacturer or if they want to offer consumers more choice.
GM keeps its promise
General engines (GM) – Get the report from the General Motors company understood this well. The company led by Mary Barra is on track to launch its first anti-Tesla weapon.
Cadillac, the premium brand, will start production of the highly anticipated Lyriq electric SUV around March 21, as initially planned, TheStreet has just learned.
“Production of Cadillac Lyriq is still on track to begin later this month,” Daniel Flores, a GM spokesperson, told TheStreet. “We will share more details soon.”
This is in line with the schedule GM gave in January. At the time, GM said Cadillac would begin manufacturing cars for customers at the end of the first quarter, which ends March 31. There will be no delay as we feared.
The original schedule was for the Lyriq to launch in late 2022, but GM accelerated things in hopes of catching up with Tesla quickly, and most importantly, moving away from Ford. (f) – Get report from Ford Motor Company.

Introduced in 2020, this SUV/crossover is important, even central, to the tens of billions of dollars the Detroit giant has invested in its transformation into a group mainly producing electric cars in the coming years.
The Lyriq, Cadillac’s first 100% electric car, would usher in the era of electrification of GM cars: Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC and Buick.
Pre-production has started at the Spring Hill factory, Tenn. This site initially produced Saturn models, but GM has allocated $2 billion to enable the plant to produce the Lyriq and other electric vehicles under the Cadillac brand.
The Lyriq competes with Tesla Model Y and the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
The base price is $58,795, not including $1,195 destination fee. The Model Y’s starting price is $54,690, while the Mustang Mach-E starts at $43,895.
The Lyriq is a large SUV with high-end equipment, at the peak of the brand’s image. For example, the dashboard is decorated with a gigantic curved screen of 33 inches diagonally, which replaces the traditional dashboard and the central touchscreen of the infotainment system.
New Cadillac is made through virtual design
The audio installation is signed AKG Studio and includes no fewer than 19 speakers, some of which are in the headrests, all this combined with active suppression of ambient noise. The passenger compartment seems to offer generous dimensions.
For its first electric vehicle, Cadillac installed a single-engine powertrain, developing 340 horsepower with 325 pound-feet of torque. The power is transferred to the rear wheels. The Lyriq is based on General Motors’ Ultium architecture. It will be able to get a second engine in the future, giving it more power and four-wheel drive.
Thanks to a 100.4 kWh battery pack, the range of the vehicle is fixed at more than 480 kilometers on a single charge. The Lyriq accepts fast charging up to 190 kW when connected to a DC fast charger. That’s enough to recover 76 miles of range in about 10 minutes.
The Lyriq is unique in that the design is done by a computer. This virtual design allowed GM to get ahead of its original schedule. The manufacturer will also be able to realize savings of approximately $1.5 billion per year.
A limited number of Lyriq cars opened for reservations on September 18. However, Cadillac closed its Lyriq Debut Edition reservation book after just a few minutes. Cadillac has not indicated how many copies are planned for this edition. It should be noted that it was possible to book with a $100 dollar deposit.
“That was fast. Every all-electric 2023 #LYRIQ Debut Edition is now pre-ordered,” the company posted on Twitter.
