The Ram Truck brand and Chris Stapleton have teamed up again to create a one-of-a-kind Ram “Traveller” truck specially designed by the eight-time Grammy-winning artist in collaboration with the Ram Truck design team.
Built on the platform of the 2500 Heavy Duty, the creation of the Ram “Traveller” truck honors the deep-rooted collaborations between Ram and Stapleton, including the 2016 Ram Nation concert and instrument donation for students from Stapleton’s former high school in Paintsville, Kentuckythe multi-year campaign anchored by Stapleton’s adapted rendition of “I’m a Ram,” and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s current exhibit, Chris Stapleton: Presented by Ram Trucks since 1978.
“Our relationship with Chris Stapleton is special because he is not just a partner, we consider him a friend. He represents our shared values of hard work, determination and perseverance,” said Mike Koval Jr., Aries brand CEO – Stellantis. “Our journey with Chris throughout his career is something we are immensely proud of and to see this partnership with Ram Truck blossom is a venture we will cherish for a long time to come.”
In collaboration with the Ram Truck design team, the “Traveller” truck has combined custom exterior and interior design elements that nod to the vintage character of Ram trucks of the late 1970s and 1980s with modern elements of today.
On the outside, styling cues draw heavily from a Stapleton favorite, the 1979 Ram Palomino truck, which evokes the essence of the iconic vehicle and has been updated with a contemporary and modernized design. Palomino-inspired Linen Cream, Radar Red, Bison Brown and Cashmere exterior colors have been updated to complement contemporary finishes. In addition, the iconic striped graphics on the Palomino have been adapted to the more sculptural 2500 Heavy Duty body. Retro-inspired Turbo Fin 18-inch wheels set the aesthetic tone of the truck, combining the nostalgic, classic 80s look and updating the style with a fully painted, deep-ground, machined wheel with a bright chrome hub cap. Influenced by the classic Ram 1980s badge fonts, the “Traveller” badging combines the past and present to create a distinct look. The exterior is finished with a versatile three-dimensional Ram hood ornament added to give a vintage, yet modern look.
The interior of the Ram “Traveller” truck features numerous personal design details, unique colors, textures and materials that pay tribute to Stapleton’s musical career journey while also representing his individual style. These details also serve a practical purpose for his daily lifestyle. A custom, monochromatic Bison Brown color can be found throughout the interior palette with a pop of color integrated into the headrests in buffalo flannel, a material identical to the jacket Stapleton wore on the cover of his debut album Traveller. Walnut Burl wood appears throughout the interior, along with custom fabric-covered seats, guitar amp-inspired speaker grilles and a custom front row bench seat. Completing the design is a customization Chris Stapleton signature inlaid in the wood of the instrument panel as another personal touch.
Attuned to the current exhibition Chris Stapleton: Since 1978 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Ram “Traveller” truck unveiling will take place in the Nashville museum this Monday 7 November.
Chris Stapleton: Presented by Ram Trucks since 1978, highlights Stapleton’s contributions to American cultural history. The exhibition continues May 2023 and describes the course of Stapleton’s multifaceted musical career, from his Kentucky roots and success as one Nashville songwriter to his fame as one of music’s most powerful and unique voices.
This latest collaboration coincides with the official release of Stapleton’s recording of “I’m a Ram” below Friday 11 November. In addition to streaming everywhere for the first time, a limited-edition 7-inch featuring the song and a special alternate live version of the classic Al Green tune will be available exclusively in Indie retail.
