Stevens-Miller Racing’s Dodge Challenger TA2 entry moves up the leaderboard!

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Trans Am racing. After the No. 40 Prefix/Stevens-Miller Racing (SMR) Dodge Challenger TA2 team won the TA2 Championship in 2019, the team dropped the Challenger as a full-time race car in 2020. in 2021 for one driver and serve as a part-time substitute for a few others.

That one full-time driver (Rhett Barkau) ended up winning the Trans Am 2021 Rookie of the Year title. In a pre-race interview in Charlotte, the 20-year-old explained a few reasons why he drives the Challenger in TA2 competition. He explained that his family is a bunch of Dodge fans and that the family company sponsoring the car ( also includes two Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep® and Ram dealerships in Illinois.

SMR announced in February that they were building a new Dodge Challenger TA2 race car with long-time partner Berryman Products, as the title sponsor for the 2022 season. The car bears the company’s mascot, the “Green Monster,” aka known as the “Chemtooler”, and is fitted with new Fivestar Racing body panels. The No. 01 MPEC/Berryman Products Dodge Challenger will be driven again by Barkau for the 2022 season.

The 2022 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli National Schedule consists of 12 events and has already completed 3 events on that schedule. This means the series will move to the west coast for the next two races. The next stop is at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (Trans Am Speed ​​Fest), taking place April 22-24.

Currently 8th in the TA2 points standings, there is still plenty of time for Barkau and his No. 01, the MPEC/Berryman Products Dodge Challenger team to work their way up the standings.

If you have a chance to attend the Trans Am event, we highly recommend it. We are enjoying our time in 2019, with the SMR team at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The racing is very competitive and the TA2 division has had around 43 cars in its events this year. With the only Dodge in TA2 being the SMR entry.
